Government launched the new 'Mera Ration' mobile app for Android Users that will help ration card holders to identify the nearest ration shops, and check details of the price of ration, your past transactions with ration card and know your entitlement.

The new mobile app will help those ration card holders who move to new places for livelihoods. The app is currently available on the Android platform.



The scheme has proven to be of tremendous value-added service to each NFSA beneficiary during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially migrants, as it allowed them to avail the benefit of subsidised foodgrains.


What is National Food Security Act?

The One Nation One Ration Card system covers about 69 crore National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries in the country. Under National Food Security Act, the centre provides highly subsidised foodgrains at Rs 1-3 per kg to over 81 crore people through public distribution system (PDS). 


It also provides ration card portability services ONORC (One Nation One Ration Card) in 32 states and union territories.


WHAT IS MERA RATION APP?

The 'Mera Ration' mobile app is introduced to help ration card holders benefit from the ONORC-related services. With this app, the beneficiaries will be able to identify the nearest fair price shop and check details of their entitlement and recent transactions. 


The app developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) is currently available in English and Hindi language. The government plans to avail the app in 14 different languages. Recently, NIC also built a Messaging App namely 'Sandes' for the safer side of our country so that our personal data is safe & secure and outsiders cannot take benefit out of it. 


HOW TO USE 'MERA RATION' APP?

Follow simple steps to avail benefits:


1. First, head on to Google Play Store and type Mera Ration in the search bar

Download the Mera Ration app


2. Once downloaded, open the app on your mobile and register your ration card



3. To register, just tap on the Registration option, and enter your ration card number


4. After entering the ration card number press the Submit button


5. You can also check your entitlement by tapping on the ‘Know your entitlement option. To do so, you are required to either enter your Ration card/Aadhaar card number(whichever is specific for you)


6. The app also allows checking ONORC eligibility criteria. You can check the details by selecting the Eligibility Criteria option and filling your Ration card/Aadhar card number(whichever you want)

Upon registering, the system will automatically allocate the entitled foodgrains.



7. Also check neraby ration shops by just clicking on 'nearby ration shops' and then look into the shops nearest to you for taking in the required ration using your Ration Card.



8. You can also check your past 6 months transactions that you have took place using your Ration Card and the status of Aadhar Seeding.


The app will provide transparency to beneficiaries that they would no longer have to ask the FPS dealer as to how much ration he/she would get but can check their entitled subsidies directly on the app.


“The new mobile app aims to facilitate the ONORC-related services among beneficiaries of the NFSA, particularly migrant beneficiaries, fair price shop (FPS) or ration shop dealers and other stakeholders,” Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, Department of Food & Public Distribution said at the launch.


You also have a toll free helpline number to contact them if you face any issues with the same. You can also provide feedback/complaint if you face any issues in your nearby fair price shops. You can also provide feedback to the benefits of the application.


Conclusion:

One Nation One Ration Card plan ensures the distribution of subsidised food grains to ration card holders under NFSA to lift the entitled food grains from any fair price shops(FPS) anywhere in the country by using their same/existing NFSA Ration Card after biometric Aadhar Authentication on an electronic point of sale (ePOS) device. Under this scheme, beneficiaries will continue to get Rice, Wheat, and Coarse Grain at the rate of Rs 3, Rs 2 and Rs 1 per kg respectively in other states as well.
