The company had set a deadline line of 24 February when the company will completely wipe out users data from google play music as it will be no longer available. Although google stopped the play music service back in December 2020, but still allowed users to keep files in the cloud locker. Now, the company points to wipe out the users data completely that includes music library with any uploads, purchases playlists, albums/songs saved to your library and also likes/dislikes everything will be cleared by 24 February, 2021.

Therefore, company is providing an option to transfer your Google Play Music data to your YouTube Music platform.


In the emails sent out by Google, the company is urging users to move their data to YouTube Music by February 24. The email notes, "On February 24, 2021 we will delete all your google play music data. This includes library with any uploads and purchases and anything you would have added from google play music".

It also provides with two options for the users to transfer their music library

1. You can transfer your Google Play Music data to YouTube Music with just one click. Head on to Google Play Music, on the home page itself you will get a full page option that Google Play Music is no longer available, "Transfer to YouTube Music". Click on "Transfer to YouTube Music" and then transfer.

2. Another way, head on to YouTube Music, on the home page itself at the top "transfer your play music library". Click on "let's go" and all your data will be transferred. 



If you don't get this option on homepage then you can head on to YouTube Music app > Tap on profile picture > Settings > Transfer > Transfer from Google Play Music Account. Click on "Transfer" and all your data will be transferred.

Additionally, the company will also convert the Google Play Music subscription to the equivalent tier of YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium (based on the level of benefits with your current (subscription)


The transfer process can be done with an Android device, iPhone, or from the web. No matter which method you choose, all of your stuff gets moved over in the background, and you’ll be able to see all your play music data on YouTube music and you'll use the app as normal.

The process of transferring data is the same for mobile devices regardless of whether you’re using Android or iOS.
